I'm off to con the Chinese

As another job comes to an end, I have a choice. Either continue to get lousy jobs from conmen or take a certification course so I can get marginally better job offers from con artists. I will go with option two and take the CELTA (Cambridge English Language Training for Adults) in Beijing in October. This means that what was once a Korea-focused whineblog will now center on Chinese complaints. It also means that this blog may be updated even less than it is now because the Chinese are Communist true-believers who censor absolutely everything, the internet included. If you find that this blog has been blocked and you feel the need to live dangerously and sneak around the censors, you can always use this secret passageway. But if you get caught and squeal on me I....well, I won't be the least bit surprised.

Ah, the Chinese. I'm tempted to make racist jokes but many of my friends are Chinese too.

If I made a racist joke, Confucius would probably say, "You go to jail, bad boy!"

Ahhhh, smart in the arse, you are.

Question: Was Yoda Chinese or just made in China?

wow - good luck in China!

What advantages does the CELTA offer you for getting work? Better chance for a university type job? How much does it cost?

I am hoping for a university job here (or elsewhere- I'm an outcast where ever I go so in that sense it doesn't matter to me) after I finish with it. Most Uni and high school jobs want some form of EFL certification and the CELTA is the most widely recognized. China is the second cheapest at $1350 plus a 75 dollar registration fee. Cheapest would be in Budapest but their fifteen page application test was laughable and their reputation sucks. after that I will hopefully have the time and job stability to start in on at least a certificate program in international trade even if it is just an online crash course. or an M.A. in Linguistics, although I suspect that a Linguistics M.A. may possibly condemn me to a life of kimchi eating.

Dude, I thought you got deported from China... ?? How can you even go back? And hey, I bet you dont need a CELTA certification in order to do your MA in Linguistics. I dont think they're that picky. But that is just a guess. Not that you need my lousy opinion. Anyhoo, the goodest of luck to you in China. Dont get yourself kicked out. And DONT entertain prostitutes. You have my best wishes.

I was reading a paper from a university about this subject. Nice article. You know what you are talking about. Along the lines of this theme, I have a similar site avian flu bush where more information can be found on the subject. Thanks for the bit of information you posted here.
